San Jose, CA September 5, 2014 — Last month, the Santa Clara County Democratic Party Central Committee
unanimously voted to pass the Resolution on Equal Representation in Elected Office and the SCCDP’s
Commitment to Improving the Status of Women in Santa Clara County. In August, after months of community
outreach and input, Democratic Activists for Women Now (DAWN) introduced a resolution that would affirm the
Santa Clara County Democratic Party's commitment to improving the status of women in our county and to
equal representation in elected office. The resolution establishes the first ever Central Committee Director
Position to oversee this commitment by the party.

“I am so proud of the work being done by DAWN and the members of the Santa Clara County Democratic
Party. We are making great strides on behalf of women and girls as a local Party. I am excited to see the
implementation of this resolution and to support the recruitment of democratic women into elected office,” said
Steve Preminger, Chair of the Santa Clara County Democratic Party Central Committee.

The final resolution draft came after months of outreach with members of the central committee and input of
leaders of local women’s organizations such as DAWN, the National Women’s Political Caucus of Silicon
Valley, Emerge California and Close the Gap CA.

“This resolution will make our Central Committee a leader in the fight for equal representation for women. We
are proud to spearhead this effort that will increase the number of women in elected office and result in a more
progressive policy agenda for our county. We hope to be a model for other local parties across California.” -
Darcie Green, DAWN Board President

The new Director will report quarterly on the current status of women both in Santa Clara County public
jurisdictions and within the Santa Clara County Democratic Party and lead the compilation and publication of
an annual report of the current number and percentage of women in elected office in Santa Clara County and
post the report on the Party website and in electronic communication to all members.
